Oscar Stringer is an expert in the field of animation for education and will be running two on-line workshops via Glow Meet (Glow's video-conferencing tool) in the Primary Homecoming on-line classroom. You can follow his training and tips with your children, and they will have the chance to ask him questions as well. The dates for the workshops are as follows:

SESSION 1 - 'Have a go' on Wednesday May 13th (approx 13.15 to 15.00)



Who is this session for?

For absolute beginners who just want to 'have a go'. You don't need to be a computer expert, and you don't need to know anything about animation. All that you need to do is be willing to 'have a go'.

Oscar will be working with pupils from Newton Mairns Primary in North Lanarkshire and we want you to join in with the hands on animation session. He will give the instructions and do the teaching throughout the session - you just need to get your pupils prepared.

What do I need?

For each group of children you will need;

• A computer, Windows or Mac
• A camera: An external web cam is ideal but a DV video camera that connects to computer is even better! Built in web cams can be used but will be difficult to manoeuvre.
• Plasticine models, bold and with a few parts able to move to animate.
• Animation software - good quality animation software is essential.

How can I get the animation software?

Oscar Stringer will be using Kudlian's I Can Animate software.

This is a dual platform title for both PC & Mac. If you would like to purchase this, go to Kudlian's web site

What else needs to be prepared?

Just have the equipment and the children ready to go before the session. Ideally they should be in small groups - between 3-6 children in each group.

We are choosing Homecoming as a theme, so maybe have a rough idea of a 20 second short animation film for your groups to produce, based on this theme. This could be depicting a famous Scot, highlighting a part of Scotland's culture, or whatever you wish related to Scotland's Homecoming. Have characters for the animation prepared, and then you’re ready!

This session is for anyone who has used animation before. Oscar will be working with pupils from Highdykes Primary (West Dunbartonshire) who have been involved in animation already, to help give further training and tips to make your animation films even better. The same preparation and equipment will be needed as the first session.
