Cameras

I Can Animate and I Can Present will work with a variety of USB webcams or a firewire DV camera. You might need to install drivers to your computer so check with the camera manufacturer first and always install the latest drivers. Better still, find a camera that does not need drivers. With cameras connecting through a firewire port, you may need to purchase a firewire card for your computer.

If you are opting to use a DV camera you should be aware that more recent camcorders do not have a firewire port, only USB ports. The manufacturers no longer supply a live view feed through USB and we are therefore unable to control the capture of a picture from these devices. A few manufactures still have available fire wire DV cameras.

Digital Still Cameras

Unfortunately manufacturers currently do not produce inexpensive digital still cameras that we are able to control remotely in order to capture a picture.

High Definition Webcams

A range of High Definition web cameras are now appearing on the market and these are ideal for use with both applications.

We are recommending the aGent HD web camera as its features and picture quality are ideal for use with our products and many others.

Help, my camera won't work

First of all you need to ensure that you are using either a USB enabled web cam or DV firewire camera.

If you are using Microsoft Windows then you might well have to install a driver to make your web cam work. Check with the manufactures web site to ensure you install their latest driver.

On Windows it still won't work with I Can Animate or I Can Present

The most likely cause is that the camera manufacturers installer has not only installed the camera driver but also a piece of their own software, to control the camera. This results in this software and ours 'fighting' over the video channel. Usually the first piece of software loaded grabs the channel and almost certainly plugging the camera in will have automatically loaded this. Check the notification are on the Task Bar (bottom right hand side of the screen) for a new icon or one that reports as being connected with the camera by allowing the mouse pointer to hover over it. If you find one, right click on it and quit. Now launch either I Can Animate or I Can Present again and it should work.

HUE warning

We have been notified by many Windows users that the HUE webcam installs this type of software and you need to quit out of their application before trying to use either I Can Animate or I Can Present.

On Mac OS X the drivers that HUE provide are old and not compatible with Apples operating system, 10.6 or above. When we receive notification from HUE that the drivers are updated in line with Apples guidelines on deprecated software calls, we will remove this warning.
