(Q) I have upgraded from version 1.4.x to 1.5.x of I Can Animate. Old files will now not load.

We have identified an issue with Apple's installer that causes a problem with the computers Launch Services database. This results in the problem you are seeing. This can be quickly fixed by downloading and running this script which rebuilds the database automatically. You will need to be logged onto the computer with admin access rights.

We apologise for this inconvenience.

(Q) I have upgraded from version 1.4.x to 1.5.x of I Can Animate. I do not seem to be able to draw shapes using the drawing tools, fill colours or to copy objects from one frame to another.

Under Snow Leopard the drawing tools work in slightly different way to version 1.4. In version 1.4 you were able to simply click on a frame in the timeline, and start drawing straight away. In version 1.5.x you have to click on the preview screen in order to give this window the input focus before you can start to draw or copy objects.

(Q) I am using Snow Leopard OS X 10.6, and have upgraded from version 1.4.x to 1.5.x of I Can Animate. When I save a file, it now appears as folder instead of an I Can Animate file.

There appears to be an issue with the VeriSign certificate and it is not being recognised and validated during installation. Please download the latest version of I Can Animate from our website. The certificate has been removed until this issue is resolved. Download here.... Please also note the question above.

(Q) My HUE webcam no longer seems to work with I Can Animate version 1.5 or Snow Leopard?

I Can Animate version 1.5 uses the new Apple QTKit Capture APIs. This means that the old legacy sequence grabber is not well supported and the Hue relies on the older technology. The HUE manufacturers will need to write new drivers and/or possibly change the technology in their cameras in order for them to work on Snow Leopard. We have spent a lot of time sourcing compatible cameras and the new Agent V5 supports the new technologies. Version 1.4 is not affected

(Q) Is I Can Animate version 1.4 compatible with Snow Leopard?

snowleopard*No version 1.4 is not compatible with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and a new download, Version 1.5 specifically for Leopard and Snow Leopard, is now available.

(Q) I've just upgraded to QT version 7.4.5 and now the internal iSight is showing me a picture that is 'blocky', a bit like this!

image

The recent QuickTime software update from Apple has resulted in a problem with the internal iSight. I Can Animate and some other applications seem to be affected. We have reported this to Apple who acknowledge their is a problem. We have since release a software update to overcome this issue. Please download the latest version of I Can Animate

This problem only seems to effect new Macs and the internal iSight. If you use an external camera such as a webcam or DV firewire or firewire camera you can continue to use I Can Animate.

(Q) I Can Animate now defaults to my internal iSight camera, it never used to!

It would appear that a recent software update from Apple has resulted in I Can Animate defaulting to the internal iSight camera, where present, even if the camera you want to use is connected through the firewire port.
You will need to follow the instructions outlined in this pdf file. Instead of choosing the iMage webcam from the list, choose the name of the camera that you have plugged in. At the moment you will need to do this each time you start up I Can Animate.

(Q) Will I Can Animate version 1.4 work with iMovie 7 (iLife 08)?

Yes, I Can Animate animations can be shared as a QuickTime movie or an iMovie project.

(Q) I Can Animate Version 1.3 and 1.4, can't see the USB iMage webcam.

You need to ensure the following;

  • You have Mac OS X 10.4.3 or above installed
  • The camera is connected to the computer via a USB 2 port
  • You have downloaded and installed the iMage Plugin - iMagePlugin (305 KB)
  • On Apple computers with a built in web cam, you will need to select the iMage camera by launching I Can Animate, and selecting Camera Settings from the Window menu. In the Device section of the panel, click on the Configure button. Choose Pico iMage Webcam from the Source.

(Q) Why can't I Can Animate recognise my DV camera (it sees my iSight)?

Go to Apple's QuickTime Download web site and download the latest version of QuickTime, after installing, restart your Macintosh. This has been found previously to eliminate this difficulty.

(Q) Occasionally iMovie will not open my I Can Animate projects.

It has been confirmed that iMovie 4 (and earlier) will only open a project with a filename no longer than 20 characters. Apple have fixed this problem with iMovie HD.
