Unit 4E: Modelling effects on screen

Children will already have had experience of using floor turtles and giving directions and instructions. Unit 4E builds on this and introduces Logo.

Logo can initially be very confusing and it is a good idea to relate what the children are expected to do to their previous experiences.

Access to floor turtles during the introduction is a good idea, comparing the instructions of the floor turtle with those used by the screen turtle might help.

Introduce the logo commands using shapes children already recognise, squares and rectangles.

A good place to start is by getting the children to plan out how they might get the screen turtle to draw out the initials of their name or the numbers of their age.

A presentation giving an overview of Unit 4E is also available.
